Yay! It wasn't my finest creation, but my modern inspired wreath was this year's winner in the 3rd Annual King Ranch Wreath Decorating Contest! Beautifully decorated in non traditional colors of dark red, gold, and black, my wreath stole the show! Decorative accents on the wreath included 2 large dark red silk poinsettias, 1 gold glittered dark red hydrangea, crystal frosted red apples and holly, 4 black crystal teardrops, gold and traditional pine cones, several small gold fine curly ting, 1 golden cane cone, and several gold, glittered black and red ornaments. A mid-sized shiny (red with black motif patterned) bow topped the wreath.
I want to share a funny story about me stumbling upon this contest. I was shopping in downtown Kingsville at around 11am on Saturday when I read the announcement for the contest on the window of the King Ranch Saddle Shop. I walked in to ask for more details and an associate said the deadline was later that day at 5pm and handed me a entry form. I figured I could use the wreath I was making at home for my front door but it needed some fillers. So I drove back home looked around my house for some items to fill the wreath - including items off my Christmas tree - and dropped it off at 2:30pm. Winner was to be announced on Monday through phone call or email. So on Monday, around 2:30pm, I received the phone call that my wreath was selected 1st place and I won a generous gift certificate to the King Ranch Saddle Shop! Last minute and all, my wreath still shined above the rest!!! I am so happy... =)
